in addition to approximately 6 trillion earwigs, a comparable number of rollypollys, several identical huge fat ass spiders which i apparently caused a great disturbance to, a number of very upset worms, a cool centipede, the neighbor kid, and one (1) cave cricket, there was also this Huge beetle that lacked the same catlike reflexes as the other bugs so i kept moving it farther and farther away to prevent it from getting squashed and it was so big id be able to see it coming back it just kept coming back every single time. & getting in the way again
HONESTLY also like. part of combatting misinformation is just accepting that you’ll fall victim to it sometimes. no-one can be an expert on every imaginable subject and most people don’t have the time to factcheck every single piece of information that comes their way. the key thing IMO is responding appropriately when someone points misinfo ie not doubling down and being like ‘no there’s no way I could be wrong about this’.
like a big part of studying history is learning that your previously held beliefs are hotly debated or even outright wrong and sometimes it feels bad bcos you realise you bought into what was, with the benefit of hindsight, an obvious lie.
and other times it feels bad bcos it’s actively disappointing!! often the lie feels better than the truth! historical myths get popular bcos they are, typically, better, punchier stories than what actually happened.

Today (June 26, 2023) is the 20th anniversary of Lawrence v. Texas, the most important Supreme Court case in gay history. It finally ruled that consensual sodomy cannot be a crime and all state laws criminalizing it are invalid.
People don’t realize how recent it was that cops could arrest you solely for having gay sex, in the privacy of your own bedroom. It was slowly decriminalized state by state, but like 1/3 of all states still had those laws in place until 2003.
It didn’t get nearly as much fanfare and recognition at the time as the 2015 decision that legalized gay marriage. But I think it established a far more crucial right.

It should 100% be illegal for companies to make you give them your payment information when you sign up for a free trial version of their product. It is not necessary and there is no good fucking reason for them to do it. It’s blatantly just so they can steal forgetful customers’ money.
